Frequently Asked Questions

Hehua Airport is about 25 km from Wulingyuan Scenic Area, ~40 minutes by car. Direct airport shuttle buses are available (¥20–25, departing according to flight schedules), or you can take a taxi (¥80–120). The airport shuttle is the most economical option — head to the waiting area immediately after arrival.
Zhangjiajie West (West Station) is a new high-speed rail station opened in 2021, primarily serving the Qianjiang–Zhangjiajie–Changde high-speed railway. Zhangjiajie Station (South Station) is the traditional railway station, closer to the city center, mainly serving conventional trains. Check carefully when booking — West Station to Wulingyuan is ~60 minutes by bus; Zhangjiajie Station to Wulingyuan is ~40 minutes.
They are completely independent parks requiring separate tickets. Wulingyuan (¥245 peak season) contains four sub-areas and is located in Wulingyuan District. Tianmen Mountain (¥258) is in Zhangjiajie city with its own cable car. It's generally recommended to visit Tianmen Mountain first (in the city), then drive to Wulingyuan (1 hour).
The Bailong Elevator is a signature attraction in Wulingyuan — one of the world's tallest observation elevators, ascending 335 m to the summit in about 2 minutes. Highly recommended! ¥72 one-way. Peak season queues can be 30 min–1 hour. Book via the official app or Meituan to reduce waiting time.
Both have pros and cons. Staying in Wulingyuan (e.g., riverside homestays along the Maoyan River): morning access before crowds arrive, misty dawn views, but higher prices (¥200–500/night) and fewer options. Staying in the city: affordable (¥100–300/night), convenient for Tianmen Mountain access, suits budget travelers or varied itineraries. Recommended: first night in the city, next two nights in Wulingyuan.
